Do you have a project idea aimed at improving the conditions for miners and mining communities working on tin, tantalum, tungsten or gold in conflict-affected and high-risk areas (CAHRAs)? The EPRM has launched a new round of Call for Proposals!

Projects should be designed to increase responsible mining practices and to improve the technical and financial ability of artisanal and small-scale mines in CAHRAs. This round of Call for Proposals has no specific geographical scope and prefers projects that promote gender equality and women’s economic empowerment and projects that create a direct link with the mineral supply chain. The total budget available for this round is €2.4 million.

The Call is now open. Please consult our website for more information and technical details. If you need inspiration for project ideas, have a look at the seven projects that were funded in the previous round of Call for Proposals.

IPIS project update

With EPRM funding, IPIS and its Bukavu-based partner CEGEMI have launched early this year a project to advance incident reporting and community participation in responsible sourcing through cooperative and civil society capacity enhancement. As part of this project, the project partners will develop an incident reporting and monitoring platform to report incidents related to gold exploitation. Read more about the project developments here.

IMPACT & Dell cooperation

Women’s empowerment in the artisanal and small-scale mining sector is crucial. Thanks to a collaboration between IMPACT and Dell, women artisanal miners in Congo will get business skills training as part of the EPRM-funded AFECCOR project. This training will focus on investing strategies to support new entrepreneurship opportunities in their communities. Read more about the collaboration and the AFECCOR project here or watch the video made by Dell here.

CRAFT Code released
The EPRM is proud to have financed the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) and RESOLVE to develop the Code of Risk mitigation for ASM engaging in Formal Trade (CRAFT). This code facilitates the relationship between the gold industry and the ASM sector by helping miners and their buyers to assess critical social and environmental risks in artisanal supply chains. Read more about the CRAFT code here.

Valcambi signs agreement with small-scale mine

In April, Valcambi, the Swiss gold refiner and one of the strategic EPRM members, has signed a long-term supply agreement with a small-scale mine in South-Peru. This collaboration is  an important milestone for both Valcambi and the ASM sector. Read more about the project here.
